Kitchen Counter,Backsplash -Check

Well here are some pic's of my first half of kitchen redo. The granite countertops and tile backsplash are finished.
We will be re tiling the floors in about a month. I inherited this blue and white checked floor and I really loved it because it went with my vintage style. Problem-we have about 6 different floorings on first floor of our house and needed to make all the tiles one. We are going with a neutral tile that will be good for resale.
How do you take a picture of a window? You can kind of see the new faucet-we kept old sink.
The grouting is done and I can check this off my to do list Yea! Piano recital this week end- then on to ripping out old tile next week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Grouting and Red Signs

Hi all,
I'm still in the middle of grouting as you can see, should be able to finish it today. Sandra from Sawdust and Paperscraps was nice enough to send me some helpful hints. I took a cue from her great kitchen re-do to do my backsplash in white subway tile.

Here are some red vintage signs that I have in my kitchen in honor of Rednesday from It's a Very Cherry World. The red root beer sign is glass and I think was from an old soda machine. The thermometer was bought on the way back from Austin on the side of the road. It was kind of bent and the guy just hammered the dinks out. I would have been scared to do that.
I would like to thank you for your comments. I enjoy reading them and getting to know you all. It's so much more fum blogging when you know someone is reading along. I love so many blogs and have been reading some of them for years. You guys make my day!

Kitchen Progress

Well, I made it through the weekend.
Highlights-granite countertops are in.
-Tiled backaplash-took twice as long as I thought
-Grouted small part of backsplash and decided I hate grouting. Has anyone grouted and has wonderful tips or hints for me?

I'll continue grouting this week, and hopefully finish by Saturday, because I have a piano recital in my home on Sunday. Busy week. I' missed so many garage sales this weekend. I'm jealous of all of you who got to go out in nice weather. Anyway I'll keep my nose to the grindstone and fill you in on my progress. The pic above is from my bathroom-at least it is finished!

Max and Texas Blubonnets

I wanted to introduce you to my little guy-Max. He's a 10 year old Yorkie. Me and Hubby took him out to a patch of Texas Bluebonnets and took some pic's. He doesn't always cooperate, but I think he's a cutie anyway.

Bluebonnets are all over the place right now. The color is a deep purple, really pretty. Getting ready for countertops today-I'll show pic's when it's done.
Hope you all are having nice weather and get out to enjoy it!

Red Dollhouse at Brookhollow Lane

Hi- come on in to the Sweet Shoppe. In honor of Rednesday from It's a Very Cherry World
I thought I'd show my little dollhouse. The bakery was inspired by Turkey Feathers Dollhouse Bakery.

I found the dollhouse shell at an Antique mall for $14. I added the door the attic window and flooring and furniture. I had the most fun doing all the decor, just like for a real house.
I wish I had a sink like that in my real kitchen. Looks like they are making gingerbread men!
Anyway I hope you enjoyed my little tour. The Sweet Shoppe is always open for business! Happy Rednesday!

Achoo!

My hubby's allergies have been killing him lately, he's been sneezing up a storm. Everytime he sneezes, it reminds me of my hankie obsession. If you're old enough you probably remember always carrying a hankie in your little purse when you got dressed up. I love vintage hankies and thought I'd show you what I've used some of them for.Pillow above was made of a monagram hankie-I folded it before sewing so I wouldn't have to cut it.
I love holiday color hankies to use for displays. I especially love my Christmas hankies-they are packed away for now.
I collected blue and red hankies for my craft room window. I also did the same thing in my bedroom-I think I bought every green hankie in the Dallas- Fort Worth area.
I think they add a tough of vintage and color whereever you put them. I'm always on the lookout for great looking hankies-you can use them anywhere. To anyone out there with allergies-Gesundheit!

VIntage scrapbook pages

Thank you again for all your comments. I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys. It's nice to know someone out there in blogland is reading this. By the way I've been checking out some of the blogs I hadn't been to- WOW! There's so much out there!

I decided to show you pic's of my latest scrapbook project. The pages are 8x8 and I did about 30 pages. It was inspired by Creative Breathing and lots of vintage pictures. I had prints made up from my parents slides and wanted to have it look from the era they were taken-late 50's early 60's. I was amazes at the quality of the prints from slides that old. Oops-I'm dating myself. I had the most fun doing this and plan on making more or some vintage cards etc.
I'm off to plant my flowers that I bought-supposed to rain over the weekend.
Have a great weekend!

Rednesday and comments

I'm so excited to receive comments this morning.Thank you! Yea!!! I think I may start to really love blogging. I'm not much of a writer, but am an avid reader of many blogs. If I ever figure this out I will mention them.
On to Rednesday hosted by It's a Very Cherry World. The red stool was thrifted by my Mom. She always knew what I loved. The little red teapot thermometer was found at a garage sale. The little pot holder hanging on it was found at an antiques store. I think red is such a happy color, don't you? I think red goes with every type of decor, vintage, country, really anything.
I'm off to find some flowers -I think I missed the boat on nice weather here last weekend and everything is sold out or picked over. I may have to wait until Friday to get a good selection. It's great day here in Texas. Enjoy yours!

Kitchen Corners

Hi,
I thought I'd share a few corners of my kitchen. I was inspired by a vintage tablecloth and I had to keep in the colors of my blue and white checked tile floor. I really had fun putting this together. Alot of stuff was thrifted and some came from antique stores and a few things from my best friend Donna.
I collect vintage linens and have a few boxes of them that I'll show later. I also love red and white enamelware-this is only part of my collection. This kitchen is cheerful and bright and makes me happy! Hope you like it.

Happy Rednesday

I wanted to join the fun. Red is my favorite color- here's one of my favorite things.
Enjoy!
Leslie

Well -it only took me about a week to figure this out- but I did do my blog banner by myself. I had a little trouble editing the pic's, but it's good enough for now. I'll work on side bars later. I'm slowly going to get the hang of this blog!
Granite is going in a week from Monday. Then the next thing will be floor tile. We already have it in the garage waiting. Still haven't decided on the backsplash.
Here's a picture of my little Max. He's about 10 years young and is my baby. He stays glued to my side whenever I'm at home and sleeps right next to me on the bed.

Have a great week end!

Under Construction

Well I'm beyond the point of no return. I took out our white tile backsplash today. It was pretty easy-the tiles kind of popped off. It was like they wanted to be off the wall. We are having granite countertops installed soon. Than we'll move on to the tile floors. I have mixed feelings on losing my vintage kitchen. I definitely will NOT miss the tile countertops. Those should be outlawed!! Anyway, I haven't decided on what to do as a new backsplash yet. If anybody out there has a great idea, please share. I'm kind of between white subway tile or possibly leaving it blank.
We have white cabinets in the kitchen now. I'll update as this project goes along.
