More Hearts

A few more Valentine pic's. I added a few light pink touches to the dining room. I do like having a neutral background, so I can decorate it for any season.

Here's some more felt conversation hearts and some pink threads and vintage Valentine.
I finally made it to the thrift stores last week. I found this new cherry platter-couldn't pass it up, because it went so well with my stuff.
Here it is in the Valentine hutch.
I also found this cute cup. It has Termocrisa on the bottom, made in Mexico. I think it's like Mexican Pyrex. It's the second piece I've found. I just love the little picket fence design.
Haven't had much time for anything-I'm in the midst of painting cabinet fronts and drawers all over the house. I had to paint in 2 parts-uppers and lowers, because I didn't have enough room to spread everything out. Half way there. I can't wait for this project to be over, at least my back can't!
I hope the weather is warming up for you out there in the cold parts of the world. It's been super warm here-not the the usual January weather, but I'll take it any day. Happy Week to you!

Valentines Hutch

I decorated the kitchen hutch for Valentines. I sort of rearranged the stuff and switched out a few others.
Brought in the gumball machine from my craftroom.
The little conversation heart was inspired by Elizabeth at Creative Breathing.
For some reason I think cherries are kind of Valentiny

You've seen these before! My kissing dutch salt and peppers.
Some vintage valentines.

I'm learning to crochet some little hearts. I hope I can make a little heart garland before the 14th.
I've taken the bottom cabinet doors and hinges off from the kitchen. Getting ready to sand and prime them over the weekend. I'm using the extra large size on the pictures. Do you like the big ones ar the regular size better? I'm off to the garage to start sanding.Update-I've primed and painted one side of cabinet doors. It's a long dry time, so this will be going on here for quite awhile. Will show progress next time. Joining Tweak it Tuesday. Go check out other tweaks from some very creative bloggers.Have a great week.!

Scrappy Quilt

I finished tying the quilt top that I found at an estate sale.I used an old white sheet for the backing, red scrap fabric for the binding and red thread for the ties.
Here it is laid out on the floor. The quilt sandwich. Backing, batting and top. I pinned it with safety pins and then tied it the corners of each square.
These little clips are the best! No pinning for the binding. I love them.
I sew the front edge of the binding on with the machine, and hand sew the back side. It's just the way I've done it in the past.
Here it is on the bed. I just love all the happy, scrappy, vintage colors. None of the edges are even, but it makes it kind of homey.
The perfect thing to do, when it was rainy and ugly because it's so warm on your lap when you are sewing on the binding.
I got my new computer and am trying to figure out Windows 8 as I go along. I've got my paint and sand paper and am ready to start on my kitchen cabinets next week. I can't wait to get that over with. What projects are you working on?.Joining Rednesday. Go over and see other reds at It's a Very Cherry World. Hope you have a good week!

January Days

It's been a really busy week. We've been doing little repairs and fixes that we like to get out of the way at the beginning of the year. Like caulking, fixing a leaky washing machine(thanks, youtube),and painting door frames. Stuff that doesn't look like you've done a thing, but feels good to get it out of the way.

My next big project is to tie the quilt top I got at  an estate sale recently. I just love the colorful scrappy top.I will be painting my kitchen cabinets soon, so stay tuned for that.
I've also been shopping for a new computer-mine is on it's last leg. I had fun putting this collage together of most of my craft projects from 2012.
The weather is warming up a little and the sun is out. Looking forward to doing some new projects this year and finishing some of the old ones. Happy Week to you!!

Back to Business

We got our wish! We had a white Christmas in Dallas! It started snowing on Christmas day and stuck almost right away. Can you tell I'm excited? It was just enough to cover everything with a pretty blanket of white. We had a really nice holiday! How about you?
Here's the recipe book I told you about before Christmas. I got my Mom's old recipe card boxes after she died.I went through and pulled and color copied the ones I wanted to use. I made a book for my brother, my son, and one vegetarian version for other son.
Since I was short on time, I used pre-made recipe books from Hobby Lobby(used my 40% off) and just glued in the recipes. These books have the pages, recipe dividers and extra pages so you add more later on. I added a few vintage pictures that I had of relatives in the kitchen or cooking.
Below is my dear Mom pouring champagne for a Christmas party. Check out that apron!! I added just a few embellishments-since these were for guys.
The most important thing was to have the recipes in the original hand writing. They have the stains and spots on them. Some were even in my great grandma's handwriting.
My sons loved them for Christmas, and the one for my brother is in the mail. I even included some weird Jello mold recipes my Mom used to make for parties. I mean, like green jello with carrots, pineapple and shrimp. Does anyone remember those? I'm glad those are not used anymore-UGH!
Thank you so much for all the Christmas and New Years wishes. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
I've put away all the decorations and am in organization mode. I am working on another mini redo project. Back to business as usual.
