My Great Grandmas Quilt

My Favorite Thing is my Great Grandmothers hand sewn quilt.I never met her, but my Mom would tell me stories about her. This quilt has been hung, draped, or folded in every house we've lived in, since my Mom gave it to me. It now resides in my craftroom/guest room. It was the inspiration for the colors in there.
I wanted to have some red and pink so I added those in to the color scheme. This quilt was also what started my genealogy search. I wanted to know more. This would be something I would grab if we ever had a fire,(besides my boxes and boxes of pictures).
I'm joining Mockingbird Hill Cottage's new party A Favorite Thing. Go check out the other favorite things. I hope you all have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Paper Doll

I've been busy working on a new to me project. I'm thinking of calling it Carolines Closet. I've been so inspired by all the vintage paper dolls out there in Blogland. I used to have tons of them, and also used to make my own. I thought I'd make one for you.I am working on converting the image so I can share it with you all. (Computer stuff is not my forte).
You can copy and color her. I used colored pencils, but you can use what ever you have.
After you color you can cut out the outfits. Her she is ready for the first day of school.
Ready for those cold days ahead.
After school Caroline comes home and changes into her play clothes. How many of you remember that?
Gotta get dressed for those fall rainy days.
I'm also working on embroidering some of the outfits. You could use the pattern with scrapbook paper to make little tags. Just cut off the tabs. I'll show you more as I go. I have lots more ideas for clothes. I was so excited I couldn't wait to share. Please bear with me until I get the images on PDF for you.
I want to announce a sale in my Etsy Shop. Everything is 20% off until next Monday. You enter the code SALE1 in the box at checkout. So run on over and check it out!
The weather is still hot here in Texas, but you can feel a little change in the air. Hope it 's cooling down for you, and hoping for the best in the hurricane areas! Have a happy day!

Toadstool Redo

I've still got toad stools on my mind. I picked up a little wooden mushroom at the thrift store last week.I thought it would be cute painted. And then of course, I got obsessed and had to make a little twig pergola.
And a little bottle cap table and umbrella. I used acorns for little seats and the light over the front door.
I had the 2 little bunnies already, but I had to change their little clothes.
I had more fun taking photos of this little scene outside. It was definitely something I didn't need to do. But it sure was fun! Here's the before(I think it was an incense burner)
Here's the after. I wish my real house was that easy to redo!
We got to see a private collection of antique cars over the weekend. There were over 100 restored cars in this collection. Pretty nice-especially that woody!
I'm joining Sue for Rednesday. Check out lots of other fun reds. It has rained and cooled down here. I'm feeling like fall is in the air. I hope you all are feeling it too!

Back to School

My older son brought me these the last time he came over. Aren't they pretty in the breakfast nook?We don't start school here till the 27th, but I'm ready for a new year with my piano students .
This is a repro hankie.
I love the apple flashcard. The green To School and Home Again was found at a thrift store.
Are we ready for a new school year? Ready or not here it comes.
I wanted to say thank you to you all. I have received so many nice comments and feel like I'm really getting to know you. You guys keep me creative and I'm loving it. THANK YOU!!
Have a great weekend!

A Few Things

Here are the little woolies I've been working on. They are little zippered bags and they are so much fun to make. I love coordinating the fabric lining with the pretty wool on the outside.
I think this is the first time ever that I'm kind of ahead of the season. You can tell I'm ready for summer to be about over-I should say I'm really looking forward to fall. I'm getting out my back to school decor this week.
These will be in the shop this week-just wanted to give you a sneak peak. I got a box from my Auntie that was here a few weeks ago. These are 2 of my favorites that she sent. I will frame this and put it into my guest/craftroom.
This is the cutest doll dress. I'll be looking for a vintage baby hanger to hang up this pretty.
Also I thought I'd share with you how I organize my rick rack, bias and seam tapes. My shoe box was overflowing. I used a 12x12 scrapbook project box. I cut foam core to make dividers and glued them in. It ain't pretty but it works.
I sorted them by color, and now if I need one, I can quickly see what I've got in that color. Sure beats rummaging around the shoe box and then dumping it out.
Speaking of trim,I ordered these cute bias tapes with little crocheted edging from Holland Fabric House on Etsy. They are so cute and I can't wait to use them.
I don't know what we'll watch on TV now the Olympics are over. Maybe that will force me into more crafting mode. Y'all have a great week!

Plates Over the Headboard

I think I finally finished the wall above my headboard. I found the architectural piece awhile back on Etsy. I love the way the curve follows the headboard curve. It looked a little blank, so I shopped my hutch and had Hubby help me hang up these plates.
I still need to tweak the bedding and pillows.
The 3 floral plates were given to me by my Mom. They have been in the family.I love the gold edge.
The 2 plates with the cute cottage are from a garage sale a long time ago. Here's the before...
And the after. Much better .I love using those plates instead of having them put away.
Had older sons birthday this weekend and I thought I'd show our birthday banner that I hang.
We use it for every ones birthday around here.
And as promised, here is the lone mushroom. I'm still on the lookout for more wooden bowls.
It's a good thing the Olympics are on, because it's way to hot to go outside. I've been hibernating and sewing and will share my progress soon. I'm joining Cozy Little House for Brenda's new party. Stay Cool!
