My FavoriteThrifty Finds

You've heard me say it before, but I love to go to the thrift stores. Today I thought I'd show you some of my favorite finds and how I use them.
This oil painting of Texas bluebonnets was found for 5$. It was in the original frame. I did a post about the artist here. I am using this for my inspiration for my spring family room decor, which I'll share next time. Love those colors. Did you know in Texas, people drive out in the hill country for miles to see the bluebonnets bloom in the spring? Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas.
This was probably one of my best finds. It is hand quilted and pieced. I have it hanging in my bedroom, which is light green with a touch of pink. I found it in the throwaway cart. Nabbed it for 97 cents. It blends so well with some of my other antique quilts.
The top painting was found for a dollar years ago. I also have it in my bedroom. I found the other painting at an antique store and paid alot more then the dollar I paid for the top one.
I just found the little tray, it was brass and I spray painted it blue. That's another thing I love about thrifting-you can paint over, strip, redo, reupholster, decoupage or whatever you want. You didn't pay much for it so even if it's a flop, no worries. You can get really creative on thrifted junk.Just noticed the milk glass dish on the tray was also thrifted.
I had my eyes peeled for over a year looking for an antique sewing machine from this era. I have bought a few really old sewing machines, but I wanted this one to actually use. It came in the little table, and was missing the foot pedal. I ordered a new one, and had it serviced at a sewing center. This little workhorse sewed a denim slip cover for my thrifted white chair and ottoman  that you've seen in the family room.
These are just a few of my favorites. I could go on and on. I'll have to do another post on thrifted dishes and furniture. I think I have stuff from thrift stores in every room in my house. When someone asks me what my style is, I usually reply "Early Garage Sale" or "Late Thrift Store".
Be careful though, it's a very addictive habit. I do feel it gives my house many one of a kind decor items and furniture pieces for a fraction of the price of antique stores or new. It also helps if you are looking for a few particular things. I always look for vintage dishes, linens, frames, and things in my colors.Sometimes you leave empty handed and sometimes you hit the jackpot. Just remember to wash everything when you get home. What's your favorite thrifted item?

More Hearts

A few more Valentine pic's. I added a few light pink touches to the dining room. I do like having a neutral background, so I can decorate it for any season.

Here's some more felt conversation hearts and some pink threads and vintage Valentine.
I finally made it to the thrift stores last week. I found this new cherry platter-couldn't pass it up, because it went so well with my stuff.
Here it is in the Valentine hutch.
I also found this cute cup. It has Termocrisa on the bottom, made in Mexico. I think it's like Mexican Pyrex. It's the second piece I've found. I just love the little picket fence design.
Haven't had much time for anything-I'm in the midst of painting cabinet fronts and drawers all over the house. I had to paint in 2 parts-uppers and lowers, because I didn't have enough room to spread everything out. Half way there. I can't wait for this project to be over, at least my back can't!
I hope the weather is warming up for you out there in the cold parts of the world. It's been super warm here-not the the usual January weather, but I'll take it any day. Happy Week to you!
