Back to Business

We got our wish! We had a white Christmas in Dallas! It started snowing on Christmas day and stuck almost right away. Can you tell I'm excited? It was just enough to cover everything with a pretty blanket of white. We had a really nice holiday! How about you?
Here's the recipe book I told you about before Christmas. I got my Mom's old recipe card boxes after she died.I went through and pulled and color copied the ones I wanted to use. I made a book for my brother, my son, and one vegetarian version for other son.
Since I was short on time, I used pre-made recipe books from Hobby Lobby(used my 40% off) and just glued in the recipes. These books have the pages, recipe dividers and extra pages so you add more later on. I added a few vintage pictures that I had of relatives in the kitchen or cooking.
Below is my dear Mom pouring champagne for a Christmas party. Check out that apron!! I added just a few embellishments-since these were for guys.
The most important thing was to have the recipes in the original hand writing. They have the stains and spots on them. Some were even in my great grandma's handwriting.
My sons loved them for Christmas, and the one for my brother is in the mail. I even included some weird Jello mold recipes my Mom used to make for parties. I mean, like green jello with carrots, pineapple and shrimp. Does anyone remember those? I'm glad those are not used anymore-UGH!
Thank you so much for all the Christmas and New Years wishes. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
I've put away all the decorations and am in organization mode. I am working on another mini redo project. Back to business as usual.

Thank you for your comment on my little snow people. I love being able to leave them out long after Christmas each year.
Yay...for snow! We've had a lot and I love it.
Yesterday I flew to San Diego for the birth of my grandbaby. It was warm and sunny and felt so good at 70 degrees.
Have a wonderful new year, my friend.

  15. Hi Leslie! Oh goodness me - I didn't even know it snows in Texas! And I didn't know you're in Dallas! I've only been there once - in 1968 my mom and I visited old family friends. Jim was one of the Dallas Cowboy coaches and his family were young and starting out together with my family (before I was born) in West Los Angeles many years before, when he was a coach at UCLA. They took us to see Neiman Marcus and we saw a twenty thousand dollar chess set, encrusted with precious stones. They also took us for a drive and showed us the estate (from the car) of the then Cowboys owner - like the one in the Beverly Hillbillies. ;) After that visit, we went on to San Antonio for the HemisFair. So sorry I was a crabby, angsty teenager and unable to enjoy much of anything, wanting to be home with my friends. Oh well.
Anyway! Love your white Christmas - this Angeleno would love a "momentary" white one too.
Your recipe books are so charming! I just love that you included copies of the cards with the handwriting. And all those great photos! What a treasured keepsake those are.
ACK! I never got around to decorating except for placing a few things around and they will probably linger until March hahahhaha! I can't wait to see your latest redo project, I know it will be charming and I'll love it.

Happy happy new year and lots of fun tweaking and crafting to you.
