Quilt Projects Done!

I finished it! What a fun and easy project this was and I used up some of my recycled sheet stash. I machine quilted it.
I used a delicate pink stripe sheet for the binding.
And a pretty pink rose sheet for the backing. The only thing  I had to buy was the quilt batting. It's so soft already.
Remember the vintage hexie squares I showed you a few weeks ago? I experimented and made a mug rug.
I guess I got kind of carried away. I love bringing new life to these pretty hexies. Aren't they cute all strung in a row?
Each one was hand sewn and made of different fabrics. The fabrics are from the 1930's or 40's. I made little mug quilts and added a backing and batting and then machine quilted around the edges. I'll be listing these in my Etsy shop later this week, so go take a look. These would make great little gifts or stocking stuffers. I know I'll be making more of these-so fun!
Another look at the morning glory, just about to bloom. Each day I love to look at the purple and pink flowers it gives.
Even though my mind is on fall, it still feels like summer here. I hope you have a great week ahead. Happy Labor Day!

Odds and Ends

I have been busy in the craftroom. This banner is made from a vintage linen. Aren't the colors pretty?
This is from a cutter scrap quilt that I got at First Monday Trade Days.
Some vintage looking embroideries that I stitched and framed in hoops.
Wouldn't they be cute in a nursery? Just listed all these in my Etsy shop. I hope you'll go on over and check it out.
Some garden photos. This is the first time I've tried growing anything from seeds. It is morning glory and will twine up the metal trellis.
This is the jasmine right now and it smells delicious!
Mt first clematis bloom. So excited. I am really loving gardening this year. I still don't know what I'm doing, and I've made lots of mistakes. The bunnies ate all my annuals in the front yard. Darn. Any suggestions for bunny problems? But I'm having so much fun. What's happening in your garden?
Getting ready for son's college graduation. Concerts and trips. Exciting and busy times. Hope you all are having  good week!

I'm In the Garden

Here's some progress in the back yard. We've been adding to the garden every year since we moved in. Here's a before of one corner as we were digging out the grass.
This was after I planted 2 little rose bushes.
We replaced the fence, so the vine was cut way back (I'm hoping it will come back). We added 2 crepe myrtles and lambs ears. The shasta daisies are getting ready to bloom soon. Wow, I almost sound like a gardener! I'm going to have Hubby cut a hole in the ice cream chair seat to hold the pot of purslane.
Here's the opposite corner. 2 more rose bushes.
This was this morning. The jasmine has really filled in. The rose bushes are getting huge. More lambs ears-I had to rip some out as it was starting to grow over onto the lawn.
We have bordered in all of the beds with a brick border. I  am spray painting patio furniture this week.
Here's a close up of the red tip photinias right now.
This is so pretty, because the stem of the shoot is bright purple.
I'll share the patio next week, if I get the furniture finished. I've also made some banners that will be listed in my Etsy shop soon. Love the vintage prints.
We're getting ready to go see the bluebonnets next week. I can't wait. Spring is going fast, and it's warming up more here. Soon we'll be talking about summer.
Hope you are enjoying your spring!

Kitchen Bits

Hi. I'm excited-we finally are getting some fall weather. Cool mornings and nights. Yeah! Today I thought I'd share some random kitchen pictures. I've been trying to go more neutral in my decor, so I can add in pops of color. I've also been trying to add some farmhouse touches to the kitchen. I found this cute Yeast box while antiquing. It works perfectly for my olive oil, salt and pepper by the stove.
This is an old wood puzzle piece, that has magnets on the back. I added it to the fridge, for a pop of orange in the fall.
I love this caddy. It serves 2 purposes. One, the obvious-holding napkins and flatware. Two -it serves as a doggie blockade from the window seat, that's right next to the counter. One day, Bowie decided he could make that jump, and I found him checking out my counter. I can't have the little guy doing that. Anyway, it works. No more dog on counter.
Last, I found this pig cutting board, that had already been chalk painted. I decided to do something with it.
Drilled a hole, and added a battery clock kit. By the way, I painted the hands white, because all they had was brass.
I may tweak the numbers a little, I will show it to you next time, when it's hung above the door.
Lastly, I tore apart a cutter quilt, and made a few zipper bags out of the hand sewn squares. I love reusing old stuff, and making it into something new. I'll be adding these to my Etsy shop soon.
Lot's of randomness going on here. I'm enjoying the weather so much. Hope your week turns out to be a great one.

Learning How to Sew

I was thinking as I was sewing, about my Home-ec class in middle school. My Mom had already taught me how to sew with a pattern on her Featherweight, but I was excited to buy the supplies. We had to purchase basic sewing stuff,a set of needles, measuring tape, seam ripper, pins. We had to buy a dress pattern to make and fabric for class. Mine was this crazy green and yellow print a-line dress with a yellow collar. C'mon- it was the late 60's going into the 70's! Anyway we made the dresses and had a little fashion show for our Moms. It was really fun and we acted silly and pretended we were models. I still have my same seam ripper and some of my little supplies. Did your Mother teach you to sew? Did you learn at school? I used to make all my clothes, and now sew home stuff and crafts. I can't imagine not sewing.
Just in a reminiscing king of mood. I've been busy sorting and still trying to downsize. I'm listing a bunch of stuff on Etsy that I'm parting with this week. Check it out.
I hope everyone enjoyed Easter and family time together. Before we know it summer will be here.
