Kitchen Hutch Through the Seasons

Warning-picture heavy post. This is my kitchen hutch. It sits in my breakfast area, I bought it at the thrift store for about $70 about 5 years ago. I knew it had good bones and with a little love I could bring it back to life. I added a new beadboard backing and trim, lots of white paint. I patched the original knob holes and added some vintage pulls that I had from another project. I have had so much fun changing out the hutch for the seasons and holidays. Here we go!

Here I am decking it out for the first time. I haven't even drilled the holes for the  pulls yet.

The first Christmas.

First Valentines Day.

Notice I had an extra set of brass pulls and knobs(from Hobby Lobby), so I started to change them out depending on the color scheme. The inspiration for the blue and green was the Vera tea towel from my Mom. Green with a touch of blue for springtime.

The first time I decorated it for fall.

I love to add a cute tea towel to go with the theme.

I added more aqua this last year.

 The first time I added blue to the red for the patriotic season.

 This is how it looks today for autumn.

This is the painted naked hutch waiting for some pretties.

If you looked closely you might have noticed I also redid the kitchen chairs. They went from red to white. That way I can change them out for the season too. I  like to decorate the hutch a little different each time, even though I use alot of the same stuff. I hope you enjoyed my little hutch history. I love being able to pull out my vintage dishes and thrift store finds to decorate her.

More Red and Blue

Here's the family room with touches of red and a dash of blue.

 Another vintage quilt square pillow. The white fringe was reused from an old tablecloth.

Used my cottage bunting on the fireplace.

 Found these tiny cowboy boots at a garage sale years ago.I love how worn the toes are. The little milk bottle coasters are from Moda.

 I saw this idea at Carol's at Art and Sand. I already had the tool box tray and little glass vases so I just added some flowers to it. Sitting on an old red, white and blue quilt remnant.

 This pillow was made from an old feed sack.  I looked and looked until I finally found the one in the right colors. Best of all it had a rooster!

 Here's the kitchen hutch all done up in red and blue. Almost everything you see in the hutch was gotten at the thrift store or garage sales. I can't tell you how much fun it is to go on the hunt.

 Here's view from kitchen nook into the family room. You can see how open it is. that's why I have to tie the colors in together.

 View into the kitchen. I haven't shown this in awhile. I don't do much in here-just the towels and Aunt Ruth's rooster on the fridge.

 Older son painted the Fresh Eggs sign years ago. Little slip covers brought out for the chairs.

It took awhile to take pictures. It has been raining and raining here on Dallas. And more to come this week. I hope you all are enjoying a start to your summer.

Springtime Blues and Greens

Welcome to Brookhollow Lane and my spring decor. I'm joining the Bluebonnet Blog Hop. Hop on over to the other blogs to see what spring things other Texas bloggers are up to.  

If you haven't been here before my style is vintage, flea market, and thrift store with a little farmhouse and cottage thrown in.

 In the kitchen, here's the hutch decorated in spring colors. Hanging on the pull is my vintage Vera tea towel from my mom.

Here's a reminder of my inspiration for the kitchen and family room.

 I used my jadite and added a few splashes of aqua.

 The turquoise salt and pepper shakers were made in Japan and were also my Mom's.

 You can see the vintage table cloth folded in the Pyrex bowl. Many items in the hutch (including the hutch) were found at garage sales or thrift stores.

 I made new seat covers from the polka dot fabric from Hobby Lobby. Here you can see from the breakfast nook right into the family room. That is why I have to tie the colors in.

 A few throw pillows on the window seat.

 I also made simple window toppers out of the same fabric.

 Throw in some blue and green straws in the kitchen.

 Here's my little entryway table. I tried to keep it super simple.

 I'll probably bring out some Easter decorations next week.

      What says spring more then birds and nests?

I added some very pale pillows to the living room, just to bring in a little color of spring.

Here's a view to the dining hutch. These were my Mom's dining table and chairs. I painted and antiqued them to fit my look.
