This is where we started. Hubby dug out the grass and it sat all through the summer and fall and winter.
We finally got to finishing the flagstone patio and walkway.
Here is the view from the old patio. Our yard is super small. We had to find some way to add some interest where there was nothing before. We added the arched trellis and pathway along the back of the house.Added the curtain panels made from drop cloth to block out the late afternoon sun.
We made a little water feature out of my old red pump that I've been saving for about 25 years. The water trickles into a galvanized bucket. Love the sound.
The pergola makes the old plain slab feel more like an outdoor room. It was a very fun project. I'm really lucky-I do the design and make all the lists and Hubby and I do the construction. Well-he does most of it with my assistance.
We bought this little trellis kit off of Craigs list last year and it sat unbuilt in the garage for a year, Finally put it together this spring and stained it.
View of the pergola top.
This is what I was spry painting last week. A thrift store find. Comfy chairs.
A little seating area-remember the patio is pretty small.
Here's looking towards the trellis.
Here's looking back.
We did this project in 2 phases-pergola last spring, flagstone this spring.
I'm so happy it's mostly finished. I need to plant a few pots of flowers, but we have been eating outside and enjoying our new space. It's really pretty at night with the little bulbs all lit up and hanging. What have you been up to in your garden? Or are you still having cold weather? I hope you can get out there and enjoy some spring weather.

Oh, my goodness! I just love your pretty walkway! It looks wonderful and your pergola too! We need to do so much to our backyard but I'm not going to be able to do much this year! Oh, well, I'll just look at yours! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thank you Shelia. It took awhile to finally get to the backyard. You better take it easy this year with your knee. You can come look at my yard anytime you want!!
DeleteI LOVE your pergola, new walkway, furniture...it's all wonderful! You guys make a great team. I would certainly enjoy having a nice outdoor space like yours.

Thank, Deb. We like working together, even though there are alot of little arguments along the way-but we do make a pretty good team. Hope you are having a great week.
DeleteWow!!! Looks fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteKathy
Thanks, Kathy. We are loving an outdoor space!
DeleteThat all looks amazing! I love the stone sidewalk...makes a great walking path but also makes your patio larger. The red cushions and umbrella look great. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just gorgeous! I love everything you and your hubby have done. The pergola is so pretty...love the design. I'm sure it is relaxing sitting out there to eat and just enjoy being outside. We have been hoping to build a large porch for a while now. It was planned for this spring but it is looking like fall now. It will happen eventually. Enjoy your beautiful space!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, LOVE your yard. What a wonderful space to enjoy. The pergola is so nice and your furniture looks great. I love the red umbrella and cushions with your black iron set. Your flagstone is awesome. It really opens the patio and what a great addition. We added it last year to our pool area and front porch. I know it's a lot of work. You two did a great job.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous arched trellis too. Your clematis will do great there. It will be vining and trailing around in no time.
I know you are enjoying sitting out there on these nice days.
Have a great rest of the week.
xo
Thanks, Celeste. I feel so happy that the hard part of the backyard is finally done. I do love the flagstone. It looks so pretty in your yard too. Hoping the clematis does well. Have a wonderful week!
DeleteYour back yard looks magazine worthy, Leslie!! I love the pergola and flagstone walkway. And your beautiful flowers and water feature make it a lovely space to relax. It must be magical at night with the pergola lights lit! You and your hubby did a fabulous job making your yard a little oasis!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie! I'm still enjoying seeing your pretty backyard and if you had sunshine this weekend, I'll bet you were back out there! ;) Thank you so much for coming by to see me and your sweet words about my little Carter.
ReplyDeletebe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thank you, Shelia. I'm glad you came by again. We have been in the middle of rain this week, so we're staying inside until it clears up. Have a great week!
DeleteYour yard with the pergola, trellis archway, and the flagstone path looks beautiful, Leslie!! You and your hubby are a great team. I have a pergola, with a small waterfall, and just love it, but right now the waterfall needs repair work!! My yard is really small, and we had all the grass taken out, and put in trees and shrubs. I like your curtains, too, for blocking the sun. My youngest son hung a pull down screen on the west side of my pergola to help back the sun.
ReplyDeleteOOO, I love your backyard...the pergola is to die for. We are wanting to build one, too...I want to hang a swing filled with pretty pillows under it and put our table and chairs there. hoping Mr. Sweet feels the need soon..not sure I'll get it this summer but hope so...love yours.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO pretty! It's coming along nicely and I love the curved stone path/border.
ReplyDeleteYou know, about that cement floor, you can paint it. Sorry, you didn't ask for an input but as I was looking at it, it popped and wanted to share,
Have a great day. :)
Thanks so much. Good idea on the paint. I'll have to think that one over. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI'm getting caught up on your blog, Leslie. Oh my goodness, your backyard needs to be in a magazine. It all turned out so lovely. I would imagine spending lots of time outside in your beautiful oasis.
