Fireplace Mantle Redo

Here is our fireplace mantle redo. I bought this vintage mantle in Arkansas and brought it back to Texas.Below is the after.

Here is the before. It kind of looked like a big black hole .We ripped out the old mantle, before we even moved in to the house last summer.

Here is the hole in the wall after tearing out the mantle and the tile surround. I love demo!

Here it is patched up and waiting.Here is the taped shape of the new mantle. You can see the difference in size-we even cut down the new mantle.

Bits and Pieces

I have been looking for something to put over my headboard for (don't laugh) about 14 years. Not seriously looking, but you know- kinda keeping an eye out. I knew what I didn't want, but couldn't find the just right piece. Well, I thought of Etsy-I think of that more and more , and found this.Shabby, cracked and perfect. The curve is what I was looking for-here's my headboard and if I hold the piece next to it -the curve is exactly the same. Yea! So up it went.
Another piece I've had,actually a plate holder, we put in the bathroom and it's now a towel holder. That picture is from my Mom's Child's Garden of Verses.
I love when you can reuse something in a new way-I guess that's what repurpose really is,duh.
This is an old door trim piece that is now over the piano.
Last I had to share this bit-my new herb pot holding 2 kinds of basil, mint and cilantro. The cute red pot is from Walmart.

Max Loves Red

Happy Rednesday from me and Max!Here he is getting ready to eat at his little dog bone placemat. He gets his food in little cut glass dishes(thrifted of course). Only because I have to heat his meals in the micro for a few seconds.

Learning How to Sew

I was thinking as I was sewing, about my Home-ec class in middle school. My Mom had already taught me how to sew with a pattern on her Featherweight, but I was excited to buy the supplies. We had to purchase basic sewing stuff,a set of needles,measuring tape, seam ripper, pins. We had to buy a dress pattern to make and fabric for class. Mine was this crazy green and yellow print a-line dress with a yellow collar. C'mon- it was the late 60's going into the 70's! Anyway we made the dresses and had a little fashion show for our Moms. It was really fun and we acted silly and pretended we were models. I still have my same seam ripper and some of my little supplies. Did your Mother teach you to sew? Did you learn at school? I used to make all my clothes, and now sew home stuff and crafts. I can't imagine not sewing.

Just in a reminiscing king of mood. I've been busy sorting and still trying to downsize. I'm listing a bunch of stuff on Etsy that I'm parting with this week. Check it out.

Little Chair Slipcover

Happy Rednesday! This little chair cover was made from the cutest dish towel I've ever seen. It just happened to be the right size for my little sewing chair. You can see my latest project on the floor(that's where I do alot of work).I just folded over the edges and stitched and added little ties to the back to hold it on. The colors in this are so perfect for my craft room.
Also decided to spiff up my sewing machine cover with this cute embroidery from a pillow. The cat has a red nose!
We made it through the tornadoes in Dallas yesterday with hail damage and a broken wind shied to my son's car.He actually saw it from his work place. We feel really lucky! Have a wonderful day! Go check out the other reds at It's a Very Cherry World.

More Easter

Here are the rest of my Easter decor pic's. The giant vintage Mrs. Chick came from a garage sale years ago from a teacher. I got a bunch of bulletin board stuff.The little felt chick baby shoes are from Old Navy via the thrift store.
I love the pink Happy Easter Daddy card. It's one of my faves.
I'm a little late to the Easter party, but at least I made it this year.
