Kitchen Hutch Through the Seasons

Warning-picture heavy post. This is my kitchen hutch. It sits in my breakfast area, I bought it at the thrift store for about $70 about 5 years ago. I knew it had good bones and with a little love I could bring it back to life. I added a new beadboard backing and trim, lots of white paint. I patched the original knob holes and added some vintage pulls that I had from another project. I have had so much fun changing out the hutch for the seasons and holidays. Here we go!

Here I am decking it out for the first time. I haven't even drilled the holes for the  pulls yet.

The first Christmas.

First Valentines Day.

Notice I had an extra set of brass pulls and knobs(from Hobby Lobby), so I started to change them out depending on the color scheme. The inspiration for the blue and green was the Vera tea towel from my Mom. Green with a touch of blue for springtime.

The first time I decorated it for fall.

I love to add a cute tea towel to go with the theme.

I added more aqua this last year.

 The first time I added blue to the red for the patriotic season.

 This is how it looks today for autumn.

 Here she was when I brought her home.

 

This is the painted naked hutch waiting for some pretties.

If you looked closely you might have noticed I also redid the kitchen chairs. They went from red to white. That way I can change them out for the season too. I  like to decorate the hutch a little different each time, even though I use alot of the same stuff. I hope you enjoyed my little hutch history. I love being able to pull out my vintage dishes and thrift store finds to decorate her.

Hoping for Fall, but Feeling like Summer

 I added some vintage spice tins in fall colors to my antique scale. Found the vintage thermos at the thrift store and how perfect are those colors for fall?

See the little wool acorns I made? I glued on real acorn tops.

 This is what it is like outside today in North Texas. 98 degrees! The sweet potato vine has gone crazy. I can't wait for the temps to drop-I'm thinking soups, chili, plaid blankets, cool nights and pumpkins.

 My morning glory has gone over the fence into the neighbors yard and is peaking back through to our side.

I kinda want to plant these all over the place, because it has been so fun watching this grow, and grow, and grow! I will miss it when the weather finally does cool down.

Vintage Fall Pillow

I've had this tea towel for ages. I think it was in a box of linens from my Mom. It was badly stained on the top portion that is off white. The colors and subject remind me of autumn.

 So I decided to make it into a little fall pillow.

 I cut around the image and framed the image with off white muslin to make it the right size for a pillow form.

 Added the vintage rick rack around the edge.

 Here it is in it's new home in the hallway under the Hall of Fame. I think it cozies up the little bench and adds a little touch of autumn.

I've been busy decorating and will have lots to show you in the near future. I've also been busy adding stuff to my Etsy shop. It's still in the 90's here, so kind of a struggle to feel like fall. Hope you are enjoying nice weather. See you next week!

Quilt Projects Done!

I finished it! What a fun and easy project this was and I used up some of my recycled sheet stash. I machine quilted it.

 I used a delicate pink stripe sheet for the binding.

 And a pretty pink rose sheet for the backing. The only thing  I had to buy was the quilt batting. It's so soft already.

  Remember the vintage hexie squares I showed you a few weeks ago? I experimented and made a mug rug.

 I guess I got kind of carried away. I love bringing new life to these pretty hexies. Aren't they cute all strung in a row?

 Each one was hand sewn and made of different fabrics. The fabrics are from the 1930's or 40's. I made little mug quilts and added a backing and batting and then machine quilted around the edges. I'll be listing these in my Etsy shop later this week, so go take a look. These would make great little gifts or stocking stuffers. I know I'll be making more of these-so fun!

 Another look at the morning glory, just about to bloom. Each day I love to look at the purple and pink flowers it gives.

Even though my mind is on fall, it still feels like summer here. I hope you have a great week ahead. Happy Labor Day!
