Halloween Vignette

I added a little Halloween vignette on my entry way table.I used  things that I already had. I made some of the prim stuff a long time ago, but I think it fits well with Halloween decor.

 A little Pumpkin man is sitting on the old scale.

 We've been working on a project. It actually started last spring. As summer high temps hit, we put it on hold. Last weekend, we uncovered it to see where we're at. Planning a flagstone extension and pathway to our existing patio. I'll share more as we make some progress.Get out the icepacks-some back breaking work to be done around here!

 We're still hitting 90 degrees here. I'm so over summer and ready for fall, soups and football weather! Hope you all have a great week.

Ghoulish Halloween

It was Son's birthday so he requested his usual chocolate pumpkin cake. It's very moist and has a wonderful cream cheese frosting.

I couldn't let Halloween go by without sharing my ghoulish decor. I know this isn't for everyone-but here at Brookhollow Lane we like a little bit of creepy.

 The theme is The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. I did the mantle last year and expanded to the dining room this year.

Most of the stuff is thrifted. I added alot of Dollar Tree crows.

I have been busy with many things, including a trip to visit my Brother in Minneapolis, applying to the DAR-(Daughters of the American Revolution) for any of you genealogists out there and making over our closet which I'll share next time. I have been keeping up with your blogs, just not commenting. You kind of get out of the swing of things. Hoping to get back into it. I missed you guys!

Happy Fall!

It finally turned really cool here this weekend. I made vegetarian chili and cornbread for dinner last night. So cozy. One more finishing touch on the Halloween mantle. I probably got this idea from a blog, but you know how I said I wanted to find an old copy of The Raven? Well, I decided to make my own. I found an old book the size and color that I needed.I sanded off the old title, and the cover and corners to make it look really old.

I typed out in an Old English font the title and author. I used -get this -tracing paper to outline the edges. I colored the letters in with a silver sharpie. Super easy. Then lightly sand again to age it. I guess I'm too impatient to wait to find the real thing.

Here are the promised paper dolls. I've had so many computer issues, I thought you just copy them direct from here. I hope that works. Remember you can look here and here to get ideas on what to do with them You'll probably come up with your own ideas. Please share if you make something.. I'd love to see what you do.

Nevermore

Since October is here and it's finally feeling like fall I thought I'd show you how I tweaked my mantle. It's alot of fun  doing something different. It all started with this picture I found at my Dad's house. I don't know if it's a relative, but I'm going to call her Lenore. Does that give you a clue?

I got the idea for The Raven from the bird and cage that I found thrifting awhile back. I started looking for stuff I thought I could use.

I had brass candle sticks and the white pumpkins from a Nightmare Before Christmas tablescape. Almost everything else was thrifted.

Except for the mice-I found them at Ikea last year and knew they would fit right in.I added tarnished silver, black roses, old music manuscripts.

I also bought the feather (Raven) boa at Hobby Lobby.

I used old dictionary pages and letter stamps to make the Nevermore banner.

Here are some pic's with the candles lit.

I used LED tea lights and wrapped them with vellum to magnify the flickering lights. Add a heavy dose of spider webs.

The oval frame was found at Good Will and the owl picture is from The Graphics Fairy.

 I had such  fun doing a twist on a Halloween mantle with The Raven. I'll be on the lookout for an old copy of the book now. I did it on the cheap, had fun being creative and my son loves it.I'm joining Brenda's Tweak it Tuesday party. Go check out more tweaks HERE.

The Big Apple and more Halloween Decor

Has any one ever seen an apple this BIG? The top apple is a normal size apple and the bottom one-well- it looks like an apple on steroids! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this at Kroger. I just had to buy one , they are both honey crisps, which are my faves. An apple a day (this size) would keep the doctor away for about a year!

I made this charm bracelet a few years ago and I actually soldered the charm(not my best skill)
Here is a little penny rug out of felted wool that I made, also a few years ago. I think the edge kind of looks like candy corn.
I added a thrift store blanket and a Halloween dishtowel for color to my couch.
Made these pillows awhile back. I love the vintage Halloween print on the right.

My Dad has been here all week and is doing better. My Aunt (his Sis) and my Brother are flying in tomorrow for a weekend mini-reunion for the weekend. Should be fun. Hope you all have a great weekend!
